Board to mull prospective downtown alcohol consumption policy
County employee Health Savings Account contribution and several appropriations also to be addressed
[Tiffin, OH Oct. 8. 2018] – Seneca County Commissioners are to meet at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday at the board’s office, 111 Madison St., for a work session followed by a regular meeting at 10.
The work session is to include discussion about the city of Tiffin potentially establishing a Designated Outdoor Refreshment Area downtown.
Under the DORA, patrons of participating licensed restaurants, bars and entertainment venues would be able to carry up to 16 oz. Of an open alcoholic beverage in a designated cup outside. There are currently 11 communities in the state that have established a DORA.
The current county policy does not allow alcohol on county property.
The county’s policy is expected to be discussed in reaction to potential city policy changes. The county owns several properties and lots downtown. No decision is expected to be reached on the DORA Tuesday and the city of Tiffin has not yet voted to establish the area.
City officials are seeking input on the issue, residents can submit a survey at https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/TSEPDORA.
During the regular meeting, commissioners are expected to discuss the county’s contribution to Health Savings Accounts for employees.
Also during the meeting, the board is expected to accept the resignation of EMA Administrator Adam Ingram. Ingram, who took the position in April, is resigning so he can seek other opportunities closer to his hometown.
He is to be replaced on an interim basis by Emergency Management Technician Michael Klaiss, retroactive to Oct. 3.
At about 10:15 a.m., Ben Nutter, from Sunny Farms Landfill, is to address the board.
Nutter is expected to ask the county to waive sewer fees for the landfill.
In new business, the commissioners are to consider:
* All supplemental appropriations and appropriation adjustments submitted through the county’s software system for the Oct. 9 meeting.
* A $2,000 supplemental appropriation to the Foster Child Donation Fund.
* A $0.19 supplemental appropriation to the Historic Preservation Fund.
* A $10,000 fund advance from the General Fund to the IDEP Fund and a $5,000 fund advance from the General Fund to the STEP Fund, both on behalf of the county sheriff. The money will be reimbursed once grant funding is received by the sheriff’s office.
* The sale of a 1997 Mercury GS on behalf of the Seneca County Clerk of Courts.
