Board of Commissioners discuss upcoming sale of former Carnegie Library

[Tiffin, OH March 14, 2019] – The Seneca County Board of Commissioners discussed the upcoming sale of the former Carnegie Library, 108 Jefferson St, Thursday morning.
During the county administrator’s report, Stacy Wilson said the former Carnegie Library building and the old home to the Seneca County Juvenile and Probate Court is to be sold in May.
The 7,830-square-foot building, which is in a premier location in downtown Tiffin, was initially constructed in 1912 and operated as a library from 1913-1976.
A $25,000 grant from the Carnegie Corporation of New York funded the construction of the building.
The county is working with Re/Max Unlimited Results Realty to auction off the building at 10:30 a.m. on May 14. There is no minimum bid price for the auction, which is to occur at the site of the building. The building has no deed restrictions.
Several resources related to the sale of the building are to be released in the next couple of months.
Money collected from the sale of the building will go to the county’s General Fund. Re/Max is to be paid 6 percent of the final price, or a minimum of $3,000. 
The funds raised by the sale could help cover capital or maintenance expenses for other county-owned buildings, as the commissioners currently are in the process of creating a facilities master plan.

In other business, Paul Mylonas, of Johnson Controls, discussed possible energy cost savings with the board, which would be made possible through a government program. The commissioners heard another similar presentation from IAP Business Services in January.
Also, the board appointed Commissioner Shayne Thomas to the Ottawa-Sandusky-Seneca Solid Waste Management District executive committee.

In new business, the commissioners approved:
-> A $7,262.21 supplemental appropriation to the General Fund.
-> Approving the Seneca County Sewer District payment adjustment policy. No costs are affected, but a brief policy is being implemented.
-> Establishing the Medicaid Reserve Fund on behalf of Seneca County Opportunity Center.
-> Setting April 11 at 10:30 a.m. to receive sealed bids for superstructure replacement, prestressed box beam projects on TR 77 and TR 169.
-> Amending complaint and joining parties for case No. 1:17-MD-2804, related to suing pharmaceutical companies and drug makers for their roles in the opioid crisis.
-> Approving the recommendation of the Tax Incentive Review Council’s findings regarding Enterprise Zone and Community Reinvestment Area tax abatements for companies located in Seneca County for tax year 2018.
-> Setting April 11 at 10:45 a.m. to receive sealed bids for the Cemetery Lane recycled asphalt project, located at 3160 S. SR 100, Tiffin. The project is to be funded via grant money.
