Commissioners to recognize March as Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month
Also to receive 2019 update from Seneca County Sheriff’s Office

[Tiffin, OH March 3, 2020] – The Seneca County Board of Commissioners is to meet at 10 a.m. Thursday at its office, 111 Madison St.
During appointments, the commissioners are to receive a visit from Seneca County School of Opportunity students and staff for an update and for the official recognition of March as Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month.
The theme for the month is “improving the lives of people with disabilities.”

The school will host several events to celebrate the cause, including:
• DD Awareness Luncheon — 11:30 a.m. March 2 at the Opportunity Center.
• Bakery Bingo — 5:30-7:30 p.m. March 5 at the Opportunity Center. The cost is $5 for first card per person and $1 for each additional card.
• Pat DelTurco and Heather Gobel concert — 1:30 p.m. March 9 at the Opportunity Center.
• Craft Night — 6:30 p.m. March 11 at the Opportunity Center. (Register by March 6). Cost is $40 with $20 being donated to Unity. RSVP by calling (419) 447-7521 ext. 172.
• Celebrity Basketball Game — 7 p.m. March 24 at Heidelberg University’s Seiberling Gym.
• Rock your socks for Down Syndrome Awareness Day — March 20.
• Spring Craft Show — 9 a.m.-1 p.m. March 21 at the Opportunity Center.
• Dinner and Dialogue — 5:30 p.m. dinner and 6 p.m. program, at the Opportunity Center.
• Wear Blue on April 2 for World Autism Awareness Day.
• 62nd-annual Palm Sunday Dinner April 5 at the Opportunity Center.

Also during appointments, personnel from the Seneca County Sheriff’s Office will be in attendance to give a recap of 2019 and to give a preview of what to expect for the rest of 2020.
In other action, the request for proposals opening for new software at the Seneca County Clerk of Courts Office is to be held.
In January, Clerk of Courts Jean Eckelberry announced that the county had received the 2020 Technology Grant through the Supreme Court of Ohio in the amount of $202,639.05 to update the court’s case management system. Eckelberry said the grant will fund the purchase of new computers, servers, training and software. She said the new systems will give the office “cutting-edge technology.”
In other business, a hearing is to be held related to a bond issuance for Mercy Health.
The county may be able to assist the healthcare organization via a conduit-bonding agreement. If approved, the agreement could help the entity move forward with a large project that would be required to have benefits to the public. The agreement would not affect the county’s debt limit and would not cost anything to taxpayers but would allow Mercy Health to have tax-exempt status on a project.
The county has acted as a conduit issuer for several projects, including for Good Shepherd Home, another project for Mercy Health – Tiffin Hospital and for Heidelberg University.
In old business, the board is to discuss the data center access policy list.

Also, the commissioners are to consider:
* A $6,000 supplemental appropriation to the Recorder Equipment Fund for equipment.
* To accept the One Ohio Memorandum of Understanding in relation to a lawsuit that involves several counties, the state and prescription drug companies.
* Setting time, date and place to receive bids for pavement resurfacing on CR 32, 34, 52, 54 and 594.
