Commissioners to thank local student for heroic actions Thursday

[Tiffin, OH April 13, 2021] – The Seneca County Board of Commissioners is to meet at 10 a.m. Thursday for a regular board session.
The commissioners are encouraging residents to join them in the online meeting through the application Zoom. To maintain maximum accessibility, the meeting will be recorded, archived and streamed live through Zoom. Residents also can download the Zoom meeting app and join with meeting ID 925 9523 0790. The passcode for the meeting is 453802. Those who would rather call in and listen to the audio of the meeting can dial (646) 558-8656 and use the meeting ID and then enter the passcode.
The meeting also is to be streamed on Facebook on the Seneca County Commissioners page.
During appointments, Seneca East student Drew Steinmetz is to be recognized for his achievements and recent heroic actions.
In March, Steinmetz was hailed as a hero after firefighters say his actions prevent a house fire and saved two pets. According to information from Seneca East, while on his way home from school, Steinmetz saw smoke coming out of the side of a home. He called 911 and also investigated the fire by using the skills he learned from his father, who is a firefighter.
Steinmetz also received a congratulatory letter from the commissioners last year for reaching the rank of Eagle Scout. Steinmetz is expected to talk to the board about his efforts and his Eagle Scout project.
In other action, the commissioners are to open proposals in response to a “Request for Proposals” for the Summer Youth Employment Program on behalf of the county Department of Job and Family Services.
At about 10:30 a.m., Nicole Williams from the Mental Health and Recovery Services Board of Seneca, Sandusky and Wyandot Counties will discuss the Safe Serve program. The program will provide free training to Seneca County alcohol permit holders.
In new business, the commissioners are to discuss recruiting a moderator to lead countywide strategic planning efforts. The board also is expected to discuss working with Great Lakes Community Action Partnership on a grant for improvements at the Seneca County Jail.
Other agenda topics include discussion in response to a letter received from two Alvada residents about Seneca County EMS and considering potential opening dates for the Seneca County Museum.

Also during new business, the commissioners are to consider:
* Accepting a bid and agreement with Doug Fredritz for a three-year agricultural lease on about 137 acres of county-owned land in Eden Township. Fredritz’s bid, submitted on March 18th, was for $256.50 an acre.
* A contract with M&B Asphalt for the CR 48 pavement resurfacing project. The engineer’s estimate for the project is $396,296 and M&B’s bid was for $341,709.09.
