Commissioners to present proclamation to AmeriCorps Seniors volunteers Thursday
[Tiffin, OH – March 15, 2022] – The Seneca County Board of Commissioners is to meet at 10 a.m. Thursday at its office, 111 Madison St.
The session will be hosted in person, but there will still be an online viewing option available.
The meeting will be streamed on Zoom and on Facebook Live, but a different experience will be offered on each platform.
Those interested in participating in the session during the public comment portion must join via Zoom. Those who are not interested in participating will be able to view a higher-quality broadcast on Facebook Live. The Facebook feed will include graphics and multiple camera angles.

At about 10:15 a.m., the commissioners are expected to host a visit with AmeriCorps Seniors volunteers and present a proclamation to the group recognizing it as AmeriCorps Week.
In old business, the board is expected to discuss the recent news that Apex Clean Energy has requested to re-open the Republic Wind case through the Ohio Power Siting Board. The Republic Wind project would have brought a significant number of industrial-sized wind turbines to the county through a 200-megawatt project. The OPSB denied the project’s application last summer.
Since then, Ohio legislators approved Ohio Senate Bill 52, which gives local governments more authority over the siting of major wind and solar projects.
The bill allows county commissioners to take action to prohibit all solar and wind projects generating 50 megawatts or more in some or all unincorporated areas of the county. It also gives commissioners the ability to prohibit wind projects generating between 5 and 49 megawatts.
In November of 2021, the commissioners used the powers assigned to them through this legislation to restrict large alternative energy projects across the county.
During new business, the board is to consider:
• A $61,000 supplemental appropriation to the General Fund for contract services.
• Supplemental appropriations totaling $110,000 to the Child Support Enforcement Fund for contract services and equipment.
• Setting time, date and place to receive sealed bids for the 2022 Pavement Resurfacing Project.
• An agreement with the Seneca County General Health District for 2022 medical services on behalf of the Seneca County Youth Center, retroactive to March 1.
• The contract with Oriana House for the PIVOT Program on behalf of the Seneca County Common Pleas Court, retroactive to July 1, 2021.
