Commissioners look ahead to Christmas events during Nov. 9 meeting

Tiffin — Mayor-elect Lee Wilkinson and Fourth Ward Tiffin City Councilman-elect Dennis Snay attended the Nov. 9 Seneca County Commissioners’ meeting to thank the community for their support at the Nov. 7 election. There will be many new faces across the county in January, and the commissioners wish to congratulate all of the local election winners.
Commissioner Tyler Shuff and Commissioner Bill Frankart, along with his wife and son, Janet and Brady Frankart, served as poll workers during Tuesday’s election.
“I always enjoy working the polls in Fostoria,” Commissioner Frankart said. “What a busy day. It was a great turnout.”
Looking ahead, Frankart announced that Tiffin’s Holiday Tree Lighting Experience will be held on Dec. 1 at 5:15 p.m. in downtown Tiffin, and the Tiffin Kiwanis Christmas Parade will be held on Dec. 2 at 10 a.m. The annual German/Bavarian-themed Kris Kringle Market featuring an open-air holiday market will be held on Dec. 1 and 2. Adam Gillmor, Development Coordinator for Tiffin-Seneca Economic Partnership, said the Tiffin Masonic Lodge at 181 S. Washington St. will graciously open its doors to Kris Kringle attendees if needed due to inclement weather.
Seneca County Administrator Barb Patterson announced countywide holiday closings. County offices will close a half-day on Friday, Dec. 22, and will be closed all day on Monday, Dec. 25. County offices will resume operation on Tuesday, Dec. 26.
Shuff said he attended the Seneca Regional Chamber of Commerce’s After Five Networking Event at Coppus Motors on Nov. 2.
“They have been in business almost 100 years,” Shuff said.
Commissioners Anthony Paradiso and Frankart talked about their attendance at the grand opening celebration of Terra State Community College’s new National Machinery Advanced CNC Lab. Frankart expressed his gratitude to National Machinery for funding a project that will impact the educational opportunities for residents as well as the local workforce.
Paradiso said he and Seneca County Sheriff Fred Stevens were featured on a 13ABC segment hosted by JD Pooley. They discussed updates on the feasibility study being conducted on a possible Mental Health & Substance Use Treatment Regional Jail.
“We’re in the beginning stages of gathering information on how we can address mental health in the jails,” Paradiso said.
Patterson announced that the Seneca County General Health District has returned to its office at 92 E. Perry St.
“The building is officially open,” Patterson said.
Patterson attended an EMS ditch site meeting to learn of updates to the new EMS building under construction in Bloom Township.
“All the concrete is poured out there, and they are working on installing the electrical and on tiling the ditch,” she said.
Melissa Santiago, a public finance attorney with Dinsmore and Shohl attended the commissioners’ meeting for the final Good Shepard Home Bond Hearing. Commissioners approved a resolution authorizing the issuance and sale of hospital facilities refunding and improvement revenue bonds.
