Seneca County Commissioners honor Vicki Johnson with proclamation during March 21 meeting

Retired Advertiser-Tribune reporter, Vicki Johnson, was honored with a proclamation at the March 21 Seneca County Commissioners’ meeting. The commissioners presented the proclamation in recognition of Johnson’s competent and professional coverage of the commissioners’ work and county events.

Johnson was grateful for the recognition.

“I never dreamed anyone would do something like this. I really appreciate it,” Johnson said.

The commissioners had a busy week of events and activities in the county, including attending meetings of the District Advisory Council and the County Township Association. Commissioner Bill Frankart traveled around the county this week with other Board of Revision committee members to view properties owned by county residents who appealed their property value evaluation.

“We did that so we could have a bird’s-eye view when they do their presentations next week,” Commissioner Frankart said.

Commissioner Frankart and Commissioner Tyler Shuff were two of ten county employees who served as poll workers during the March 19 Primary. Commissioner Shuff also participated in the Seneca County Opportunity Center’s Celebrity Basketball Game.

“I enjoyed that very much,” he said. “The smiles and happiness that brings makes me happy to be a part of it.”

Commissioners Frankart and Shuff and Seneca County Administrator Barb Patterson attended the Fostoria Economic Development Corporation and Fostoria Area Chamber of Commerce & Visitors Bureau Annual Meeting on March 21. During the meeting, Ron Burns was presented with the Donald P. Miller Award for his commitment and engagement to economic development.

“We want to congratulate Ron on a well-deserved award,” Commissioner Frankart said.

Administrator Patterson provided updates on county sales tax from January sales, which were down almost $80,000 from last year.

“Please shop local,” she said. “Shop within your county so we can get that money back.”

Among five resolutions passed by the commissioners was a resolution to set April 11 at 10 a.m. as the deadline to receive bids for the 2024 LPA Pavement Marking Project; LPA-2404-4.

Tiffin Seneca Economic Development (TSEP) Development Coordinator Adam Gillmor shared news with the commissioners about Good Steward Brewery which will open soon in Tiffin.
