Tyler Shuff is a lifelong resident of Seneca County who grew up in Eden Township and Tiffin. Shuff, a Tiffin Columbian High School graduate, served as a member of Tiffin City Council for 12 years, before running for Seneca County Commissioner. Shuff has served as the Director of Operations for the Tiffin Community Reinvestment Group, which manages the development of the Laird Arcade Building, since August 2013. When Shuff took on the role, occupancy was at about 30 percent. Since then, the occupancy rate has been nearly full since 2017. In 2018, the building reached a 100 percent occupancy milestone. Many of these are small business startups and continue to be successful, with some having moved on to larger spaces due to their growth. These new startup businesses have been a driving force to the growth and invigoration of downtown Tiffin and Seneca County from which the community has benefited. Shuff has personally negotiated and brokered deals bringing more than 30 new businesses to Seneca County. He’s also the founder and owner of Shuff Consulting. His work through his consulting agency includes helping businesses with property management, real estate development, revitalization and marketing and advertising solutions. Shuff has served on several community boards and committees, including being chair of the Tiffin-Seneca Economic Partnership Business Enhancement Committee. He also served as the chair for the Personnel and Labor Relations Committee for the city of Tiffin, as the vice-chair for the Downtown Development Committee, as the vice president of the Entrepreneurship Development Committee, as a board member for Seneca Regional Planning, Tiffin Parks and Recreation and the Tiffin-Seneca Teen Center. Shuff has also served as a board member for the Sandusky River Clean Sweep. Shuff said he enjoys working as a public servant, but he also enjoys volunteering his time. He said he has volunteered as a mentor with the Seneca Mentoring Youth Links (SMYL) and for Big Brothers Big Sisters of America. He’s also tutored Tiffin elementary school children, coached in the Tiffin Little League Football League and serves as a trustee for the Tiffin Elks Lodge.
In 2017, Shuff was a recipient of the Toledo-area 20 Under 40 Leadership Award as a rising young professional. The award is a recognition for area leaders who have been influential. Shuff also was named 2019 officer of the year by the Tiffin Elks Lodge #94. Shuff said he is excited to serve the citizens of Seneca County. “I’m from here, my family and friends live here and I’m not planning on going anywhere else,” he said. “These are the people I want to serve. This is home for me, this is where my heart is.” Shuff’s four-year term started on Jan. 2, 2021.
Favorite local restaurant: There are too many awesome restaurants to pick just one. I’d encourage everyone to try everything, or if you’ve been going to the same place for a while, try something new in Seneca County.
