Dog Licenses

Auditor Julie Adkins Announces Sales for Dog Licenses begins December 1, 2023

Tiffin Seneca County Auditor Julie Adkins encourages all dog owners in Seneca County to get an early start on purchasing or renewing dog licenses. Renewal applications were mailed to all current licensed dog owners on Thursday, Nov. 30, 2023. Dog licenses for 2024 are available for sale on Dec. 1 and are valid through Jan. 31, 2025. Licensing your dog is required by state law and may ensure that your pet will be returned if it becomes lost. Deadline to renew without penalty is January 31, 2024.

Dog licenses can be purchased online at www.senecacountyauditor.org or at the Seneca County Auditor’s Office at 109 S Washington St., Suite 2206 in Tiffin. The office is open Monday-Friday, 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.

Licenses for kennels may only be purchased at the Seneca County Auditor’s Office. A “dog kennel” or “kennel” is defined as an establishment that keeps, houses and maintains adult dogs for the purpose of breeding the dogs for a fee or for other consideration received through a sale, exchange, or lease. The definition does not apply to a high-volume breeder licensed under Chapter 956 of the Ohio Revised Code. Purchasers of a kennel license may be subject to inspection by the Seneca County Dog Warden. The fee for a kennel license is $75.00.  Kennel owners will be required to sign additional paperwork.

Dog owners have the option of purchasing either a one-year, three-year or permanent license. Fees for licenses will be $15.00 for one-year, $45.00 for three-year, and $150.00 for permanent licenses. Three-year and permanent licenses may only be purchased in the Auditor’s office. Owners should be aware that the three-year and permanent licenses are not refundable in the event of the animal’s death or if the dog is transferred to a new owner.

Seneca County Auditor Julie Adkins and Seneca County Dog Warden Kelly Marker urge you to purchase your dog tags because it may save your dog’s life. A tagged dog has a higher chance of finding its way home after wandering off.

The Auditor’s Office often receives inquiries following the deadline requesting a waiver from late fees for various reasons. The Seneca County Auditor’s Office does not have the authority to waive late fees for any licenses purchased after the deadline. Get your license today to avoid a penalty later. Feel free to call the Seneca County Auditor’s Office at 419-447-0692 with questions concerning your dog license.
