Resolution to help Adams Township residents save money on electric bill on March 19 ballot
By Sheri Trusty, Seneca County Media Relations Coordinator
Amy Hoffman, an Energy Consultant with Palmer Energy Company in Toledo, visited the Seneca County Commissioners office to discuss a proposed resolution on the March 19 ballot that would grant Adams Township the authority to aggregate the retail electric loads in the township. If passed, Toledo Edison customers in Adams Township could gain significant savings on their electric bills.
“We would put it out to bid to sell a cheaper rate of electric,” Hoffman said. “Anyone in Adams Township on Toledo Edison would benefit by having an aggregation in place.”
Hoffman explained that about 40% of electric bill charges are deregulated in Ohio.
“We can help save money on that portion of the bill,” Hoffman said.
If the resolution passes, Adams Township residents serviced by Toledo Edison have the option of joining the electric aggregation. They can also opt out at any time.
Joining the electric aggregation does not change the customer’s relationship with Toledo Edison. Toledo Edison will still manage electric service to the customer.
“Nothing changes. You still call Toledo Edison if you have a problem,” Hoffman said.
The resolution does not affect Adams Township residents who are customers of North Central Electric Cooperative because their electric rates are already reduced by the cooperative. However, North Central Electric customers are encouraged to vote yes on the resolution to help their neighbors save money.
