Harrison Trail topic of next Seneca County Museum Speaker Series presentation

Dr. Bruce Bowlus, Professor Emeritus of History from Tiffin University, will present “The Harrison Military Road in the War of 1812” on Thursday, Sept. 26 at the Seneca County Museum.

The War of 1812 was caused, in part, by tensions that arose between a steady stream of white settlers moving into the southern Great Lakes region on the one hand and native peoples and their British supporters on the other.  The Harrison Trail, which passed through present-day Tiffin, became central to General William Henry Harrison’s successful strategy to neutralize this threat.

This presentation investigates the geo-political background of the war in the western Lake Erie region to understand the critical role played by the Harrison Trail in the ultimate defeat of the British and their Indian allies in the southern Great Lakes.

The free program is open to the public and begins at 7 p.m.  The museum will be open at the completion of the program for those in attendance to walk through until 8:30 p.m.  Donations are always appreciated.
