Larry Michaels to discuss the Battle of Fort Stephenson

The Seneca County Museum speaker series continues the theme of the War of 1812 with Larry Michaels on Thursday, Nov. 7 at 7 p.m.  He will be presenting “The Battle of Fort Stephenson.” The decisive American victory at the battle of Fort Stephenson in what is now Fremont on Aug. 1 and 2, 1813, ended the British land invasion of Ohio.  It also led to their complete evacuation back to Canada after Perry’s victory at the battle of Lake Erie on Sept. 10.  This PowerPoint program will show the events leading up to the battle, the battle itself, and the aftermath of the British defeat.

Larry Michaels is a retired Lutheran pastor who taught English part-time at the University of Toledo and has written several books about the history of northwest Ohio.  He and his wife Suzi now live in Fremont.

The program is free and open to the public.  The museum will be available to walk through after the program until 8:30 p.m. The Seneca County Museum is located at 28 Clay St. in Tiffin. For more information, call 419-447-5955.
