Lenna Dentinger earns 2024 #1 dog license

Mohawk Elementary third grader, Lenna Dentinger, has a number one dog, and she has the tag to prove it. Dentinger won the 6th Annual Dog License Coloring Contest hosted by Seneca County Auditor Julie Adkins. Dentinger’s colorful photo of a spotted pup playing next to a stream filled with fish was chosen from over 80 entries.
Dentinger’s first-place prize was the 2024 #1 dog license. She owns two dogs, but Fred, her German Shorthaired Pointer, will wear the number one tag.
“I just like Fred a lot,” Dentinger said.
Dentinger said this is the “second or third” time she won a coloring contest, but she didn’t expect her picture to earn the 2024 #1 dog tag.
“I love to do a lot of art stuff,” she said. “I was excited about winning. I was very surprised.”
The original coloring contest photo featured a dog playing in the grass. Dentinger added a lot of details, including a sun, flying birds and a river filled with fish.
“I just thought of a little bit of extra,” Dentinger said. “The grass was kind of tall in the picture, and grass is tall by creeks, so I figured I would put a little river in there and put some fish in it.”
The deadline to purchase a 2024 dog license without penalty is Jan. 31. Dog licenses are required by state law.
Dog licenses can be purchased online at www.senecacountyauditor.org or at the Auditor’s Office at 109 S. Washington St., Suite 2206, in Tiffin. The office is open Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.
Dog owners have the option of purchasing either a one-year, three-year or permanent license. Fees for licenses are $15.00 for a one-year license, $45.00 for a three-year license, and $150.00 for a permanent license. Three-year and permanent licenses may only be purchased in the Auditor’s Office. Owners should be aware that the three-year and permanent licenses are not refundable in the event of the animal’s death or if the dog is transferred to a new owner.
The Auditor’s Office does not have the authority to waive late fees for licenses purchased after the Jan. 31 deadline. For more information, call the Auditor’s Office at 419-447-0692.
