Pleasant Ridge Church invites public to 200th Anniversary Celebration
By Sheri Trusty, Seneca County Media Relations Coordinator
Pleasant Ridge Church in Tiffin has the distinction of sharing its birthday with Seneca County. Both the church and the county turn 200 years old this year, and the public is invited to honor the church’s long history at the 200th Anniversary Celebration of Pleasant Ridge Church on Sunday, Sept. 29, at 2 p.m.
The event will begin with a service at 2 p.m., followed by refreshments and an open house which will feature a tour of the church’s renovated basement.
The church, first known as The Egbert Church, was founded in 1824 by a group of ten local residents. The current brick building was built in 1890 and incorporated intricate elements such as ornate wooden doors, stained glass windows and a ceiling of inlaid wood harvested from nearby farms. In 1998, Egbert Cemetery and Pleasant Ridge Church were officially entered into the National Register of Historic Places by the National Park Service, United States Department of the Interior.
Pleasant Ridge Church is also a stop on the Secrets of Seneca County Historical Driving Tour which was created as part of the yearlong Seneca County Bicentennial Celebration. The self-guided tour has stops at historically significant sites all across the county.
Pleasant Ridge Church is located at the corner of State Route 101 and CR 38 in Tiffin.
