Commissioners unveil bicentennial logo, hear an update from Seneca County Sheriff

[Tiffin, OH – Aug 3, 2023] – The Seneca County Commissioners, along with the Seneca County Bicentennial Committee, unveiled the official Bicentennial logo during Thursday morning’s board session. The logo, which features an hourglass, symbolizes the theme of “standing the test of time.” The log reflects the enduring spirit and love for Seneca County as it approaches its historic 200th birthday on April 1, 2024.
The Bicentennial Committee, inspired by logos from the sesquicentennial celebrations, has been diligently planning events to commemorate this significant milestone. These celebrations will include village festivals and a kickoff event on April 1st, 2024, at the Seneca County Justice Center, featuring distinguished speakers and proclamations from local governments.
To support the celebrations, the commissioners have approved $10,000 in funding, with funds to be allocated for marketing, supplies and events. Additionally, a special fund will be created to assist villages, townships, businesses, and other organizations in making their events Bicentennial themed. Funding applications will be available at Destination Seneca County.
A driving tour, called “Historic Secrets of Seneca County Driving Tour,” will showcase historically significant sites across the county, allowing community members to explore the rich history of each of the county’s 15 townships.

In other action, Seneca County Sheriff Fred Stevens presented his 2022 annual report, which can be found here: https://senecacountyso.org/sso/application/files/2316/8744/9221/2022-Annual-Report_-_SCSO_2.pdf
“The report is to show a true representation of the hard work the employees of YOUR sheriff’s office do, day in and day out,” Stevens said.
He said that the office is doing its very best to provide service throughout the entire county to all residents with the personnel and resources that they have. Stevens said he is getting out to the townships and villages as well to present the report.
“I have nicknamed my presentation to the township and villages ‘the bang for your buck tour,’ to show what residents and taxpayers are getting for their taxes,” Stevens said, adding that he always emphasizes transparency and accountability.
Also during the session, the commissioners hosted two separate joint county ditch hearings, one with Sandusky County and another with Crawford County.
During new business, the board approved all budget adjustments and resolutions from the meetings index, found here: http://senecacountyohio.gov/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/Index-080323.pdf
