During the Dec. 26 Seneca County Commissioners’ meeting, Commissioners Anthony Paradiso and Bill Frankart, as well as Seneca County Administrator Barb Patterson, thanked Commissioner Tyler Shuff on his four years of service. Commissioner Shuff, whose last day is Dec. 31, served as a county commissioner for four years, served as a Tiffin City Councilman for 12 years, and dedicated a total of 24 years of his life to public service.

“I’m honored to have had the opportunity to serve the residents of Seneca County. Being elected by the voters has been one of the biggest honors of my life thus far,” Commissioner Shuff said. “Together, we have accomplished a lot of wins for our citizens in the county. Truthfully, it’s been very challenging but worth the hard work.”

Commissioner Paradiso expressed his gratitude to Commissioner Shuff.

“I want to thank the commissioner for his years here,” Commissioner Paradiso said. “I wish you well.”

Commissioner Frankart commended Commissioner Shuff for his four years as a commissioner and expressed appreciation for his service, and Commissioner-Elect Brent Busdeker thanked Commissioner Shuff for supporting him as he transitions into the commissioners’ office.

Administrator Patterson also thanked Commissioner Shuff.

“I appreciate everything you’ve done as a commissioner,” she said. “You’ve done a great job with the county.”

The commissioners are ending the year strongly with involvement in many meetings and events within the last several days. Commissioners Frankart and Shuff attended a road improvement meeting hosted by Fostoria Economic Development Corporation.

“There were 30 to 40 people there from several counties,” Commissioner Shuff said. “It seemed like there was a lot of willingness to get things done.”

Commissioner Paradiso was quietly sworn into his second term by Judge Steve Shuff, and he met with Seneca County EMS leaders to plan for the future.

“I feel good about how the year ended, and we set goals for next year,” he said.

Commissioner Frankart volunteered to ring the bell for the Salvation Army at Bassett’s and at Walmart this holiday season. The commissioner – along with his wife, Janet Frankart and his daughter, Kayla Frankart – volunteered at the Community Christmas Day Dinner hosted by the NOAH (No One Alone or Hungry) Foundation. During her report, Administrator Patterson responded to an anonymous letter she received questioning Seneca County EMS presence on the Sandusky County side of the Village of Green Springs. Patterson explained that Seneca County EMS entered into a contract to provide EMS service throughout the entire village. The contract creates more expedient service and also allows for quicker response time to Green Springs Elementary School, which is located in the Sandusky County portion of the village. The Seneca County EMS staff can reach the school in a matter of minutes. The service is funded by a 2.5 mill levy that was passed by the village.

Administrator Patterson informed the commissioners that the county received a reimbursement payment from the State of Ohio for tax loss during the state’s three-day Annual Sales Tax Holiday. The county was reimbursed $105,329.42.

During the meeting, the commissioners approved 11 supplemental appropriations and nine resolutions.

The Seneca County Commissioners would like to wish their constituents a Happy New Year. There will be no commissioners’ meeting on Jan. 2. The next commissioners’ meeting will be held on Thursday, Jan. 9 at 10 a.m.
