Seneca County Commissioners take first step toward AG building renovations

By Sheri Trusty, Seneca County Media Relations Coordinator

The commissioners passed three resolutions during the Dec. 3 Seneca County Commissioners’ meeting, including a resolution entering into an architectural design services proposal for proposed renovations for the Seneca County AG services office building with RCM Architects. This is the first step toward renovating the building for county use.

During his commissioners’ report, Commissioner Bill Frankart said his busy week included attending a Commission on Aging Christmas event. He praised the Commission on Aging staff for their impact on the county, including serving hundreds of meals each week to local residents.

“It’s amazing what they do. They have a great group of people there,” Frankart said.

Commissioner Frankart and his wife, Janet Frankart, volunteered at the Seneca County Family Fair Lights event at the Seneca County Fairgrounds on Nov. 29. The event features 153 displays.

“We worked with the Master Gardeners, and 123 cars went through that evening,” Commissioner Frankart said.

Commissioner Frankart and Seneca County Administrator Barb Patterson attended a public meeting hosted by the Seneca County Emergency Management Agency (EMA) to review the All Hazard Mitigation Plan. Seneca County EMA Director John Spahr is seeking public comment on the plan. The public review period ends at 5 p.m. on Dec. 13. During her administrator’s report, Patterson provided a reminder that a public hearing regarding a proposed increase in dog warden fees will be held in the commissioners’ office on Thursday, Dec. 12, at 10:05 a.m. The increase would not apply to dog tag fees. Instead, the increase would affect costs for dogs that are surrendered, for boarding, and for veterinary bills.

Patterson also shared information about a new counseling resource available from Firelands Counseling & Recovery Services of Seneca County. The service, which is available for teens ages 14 to 17, offers a day-treatment program for youth who are experiencing anxiety, depression or other emotional concerns that interfere with their ability to function. In other business, the commissioners approved nine supplemental appropriations.

The commissioners’ meeting schedule through the end of the year is as follows: There will be no meeting on Thursday, Dec. 5.  Meetings will be held on Dec. 12 and 19, with a Dec. 26 meeting, if needed.
