Jan. 9 marked Brent Busdeker’s first meeting as a Seneca County Commissioner. The commissioners’ meeting capped off a busy week of activities for Commissioner Busdeker that included a budget commission meeting and a board of revision meeting. He also toured the new Tiffin City Schools Welcome Center during a ribbon cutting hosted by Seneca Regional Chamber of Commerce on Jan. 8.
Commissioner Busdeker attended most of the weekly commissioners’ meetings in the past several months, which prepared him for a smooth transition into the commissioners’ seat.
Seneca County Commissioners Anthony Paradiso and Bill Frankart also attended the budget commission meeting and walked away grateful for a strong fiscal year.
“Our revenue for 2024 exceeded our 2024 expenditures,” said Seneca County Administrator Barb Patterson.
Commissioner Frankart and Green Springs Fire Department Chief Greg Lowe were interviewed by WTOL journalist Ryan Luchene regarding a $15,000 Norfolk Southern Safety First Grant. The grant helped fund personal protective equipment for four firefighters.
“Kudos to them for taking the time to fill out the application,” Commissioner Frankart said.
A link to the interview can be found on the Seneca County Commissioners’ Facebook page.
Commissioner Frankart announced that the Green Springs Fire Department will host grain bin rescue training in conjunction with the state fire marshal’s office at the Frankart barn on March 22.
“They will invite all area fire departments,” he said.
During her report, Administrator Patterson said she and Seneca County Media Relations Coordinator Sheri Trusty are working on finalizing Trusty’s 2025 contract. In the meantime, Trusty’s contract has been extended 30 days.
The commissioners passed a resolution naming Cheyanne Heyman as the clerk for the Seneca County Commissioners. The position expands the duties and responsibilities of Heyman, who has proven herself as a hardworking and invaluable employee in the office.
In other business, the commissioners passed 16 budget adjustments, seven supplemental appropriations and 15 resolutions.
The next Seneca County Commissioners’ meeting will be held on Thursday, Jan. 16 at 10 a.m.
