Seneca County Commissioners talk voting, budget and more at Oct. 10 meeting

By Sheri Trusty, Seneca County Media Relations Coordinator

The Seneca County Commissioners discussed the many events and activities happening around the county during the Oct. 10 Seneca County Commissioners’ meeting. Amongst the most important is this year’s presidential election season. Commissioner Bill Frankart said he took advantage of the early voting option to vote at the Seneca County Board of Elections office before the meeting.

Over 500 county residents had already voted when Frankart cast his vote.

“You never know what will happen on the day of election,” Frankart said. “The days and hours that you can vote early will increase as we get closer to Election Day.”

Commissioner Tyler Shuff said he invited Seneca County commissioner candidate, Brent Busdecker, to join him on an interview on WTTF radio with Operations Manager Mike Roca. Busdecker is running unopposed.

“Brent did a nice job on the radio today,” Shuff said.

Shuff said he attended a downtown marketing committee meeting, where they discussed, among other things, the Fall Flannel Fest & the Great Pumpkin Drop on Oct. 17 from 5 to 8 p.m. The fest, which is part of Downtown Tiffin’s 3rd Thursday events, will feature pumpkins, hot donuts, cider, hayrides and more.

During her report, Seneca County Administrator Barb Patterson said that $22.5 million was certified for the 2025 county budget. Patterson and the commissioners will develop the budget in the coming weeks and hope to have it approved by Thanksgiving.

Patterson also mentioned the Seneca County Community Housing Impact & Preservation (CHIP) program, which provides home repairs including plumbing, HVAC systems and ADA modifications for income eligible residents. CHIP is administered by Great Lakes Community Action Partnership (GLCAP). For more information, call 800-775-9767 or visit glcap.org/homerepair.

In other business, the commissioners approved 26 supplemental appropriations and passed six resolutions.

The next regular Seneca County Commissioners’ meeting will be held on Thursday, Oct. 17 at 10 a.m.
