Commissioners to recognize Developmental Disabilities Awareness month
Also to recognize Ohio 4H-week and hear from dept. of agriculture rep
[Tiffin, OH March 6, 2019] – The Seneca County Board of Commissioners is to read two proclamations in session Thursday to recognize causes that are important to the board and to the community.
One proclamation is to be read recognizing March as Developmental Disabilities Awareness month. Personnel from the Seneca County Opportunity Center are expected to attend to hear the proclamation and to spend some time with county officials. As part of DD Awareness month, opportunity center students and staff spent some time this week advocating for those with developmental disabilities down in Columbus. The group heard from Gov. Mike DeWine, Lt. Gov. Jon Husted, State Rep. Bill Reineke and many others during the trip.
The opportunity center also is hosting several events, including Bakery Bingo tonight, a Craft Night fundraiser March 13, a spring craft show March 16 and the annual celebrity basketball game at Heidelberg University March 26.
The other proclamation to be read Thursday recognizes March 3-9 as Ohio 4-H Week.
Katie Cole, Ohio State University Extension Education tasked with 4-H Youth Development for the county will attend to accept the proclamation.
Seneca County has more than 1,000 youths enrolled in 4-H across 43 active clubs. The organizations could not function without the help of more than 150 volunteers.
Cole said 4-H has something for students across the county.
“No matter what school you go to, or what project you are interested in, there is a 4-H Club for you,” she said.
In other business, Fran Elson-Houston from the Ohio Department of Agriculture is to give a presentation on weights and measures.
During new business, commissioners are to discuss potential changes to how county IDs and county addressing is handled.
In financial matters, the board is to consider:
→A $5,000 supplemental appropriation to the Ambulance Service Fund
→A $97,680 fund transfer to the Soil and Water Fund
