Commissioners to hear update from chamber of commerce president
Also plan to discuss event to raise funds for county cancer patients

[Tiffin, OH April 2, 2019] – The Seneca County Board of Commissioners is to meet at 10 a.m. Thursday at its office, 111 Madison St.
Near the beginning of the meeting, John Detwiler, president and CEO of the Seneca Regional Chamber of Commerce and Visitor Services, is to give an update to the board.
Detwiler’s report will discuss the general state of the economy and tourism in Seneca County. Detwiler and his staff members present a report to the county annually. The last update was given in February 2018.
In other business, the commissioners are to discuss an upcoming event held by a group of local college students that is to benefit Seneca County residents diagnosed with cancer.
The Alpha Phi Tau Men’s Fraternity of Heidelberg University is to host a film showcase of the documentary Legends of the Knight.
The film tells the true stories of individuals who were inspired to become real-life heroes because of their childhood love of Batman. According to the film’s website, the documentary expresses the power all of us have to be heroic and has inspired viewers of all ages to embrace their inner superhero.
The film has screened in 100 cities, with proceeds benefiting charities and the families they serve.
The event is at 7 p.m. April 9 at the Ritz Theatre, 30 S. Washington St. Tickets for the showcase are $10 and can be purchased at the event. All proceeds will support Financial Assistance for Cancer Treatment, or FACT. The organization, which was established in 1990, is a local nonprofit, volunteer agency dedicated to assisting Seneca County residents diagnosed with cancer. All donations remain local to help our neighbors with cancer-related expenses.
The event also is to honor local celebrity Bruce Wayne, who recently defeated cancer.

In other action, Commissioner Holly Stacy is to briefly discuss the future of the county’s Emergency Medical Services system.
A group of joint ambulance district leaders are working on scheduling a meeting to discuss the possibility of implementing a full-time, paid ambulance service. The current system relies on volunteers. Currently, townships provide personnel, while the county provides training, equipment and vehicles. The joint ambulance districts also offer stipends for on-call hours, but the pay is less than minimum wage. Stacy said she does not expect to discuss specifics Thursday morning, but wanted to make everyone aware of the ongoing preliminary discussions. Ambulance district leaders have not yet officially scheduled a meeting to continue the discussion.
Also during the meeting, the commissioners are to have a bid opening for the County Road 38 Bridge Rehabilitation Project. The board also is to discuss an individual who has requested out of a farm lease with the county.

During resolutions, the commissioners are to consider:

  • Setting time, date and place to receive sealed bids for the 2019 Chip Seal Project.
  • Authorizing the 2020 Workers’ Compensation Group Retrospective Rating Plan agreement between the county and the County Commissioners Association of Ohio.
