Seneca County Board of Elections Urges Timely Submission of Petitions for November 7th Election

[Tiffin, OH – June 20, 2023] – The Seneca County Board of Elections urges prospective candidates for the November 7th, 2023, General Election to submit their petition paperwork by the designated deadline of August 9th at 4 p.m.

This deadline applies to petitions for various positions, including all village mayors and two of the six village council seats in Attica, Bettsville, Bloomville, Green Springs, New Riegel and Republic.

In addition to the village positions, there is one township trustee position and the fiscal officer position available in all 15 townships within Seneca County. Furthermore, two school board seats in each of the county’s school districts are also up for consideration.

Lori Elchert, Director of the Seneca County Board of Elections, strongly emphasized the importance of early submission of petition paperwork. Doing so allows candidates more time to address any potential errors or omissions by submitting an entirely new petition. By submitting their petitions sooner, candidates also contribute to minimizing wait times, as Board of Elections staff may be receiving a large influx of petitions near the deadline. Potential candidates need to be aware that the turnaround time in verifying signatures could take longer than the usual, due to the large quantity of incoming petitions while also conducting an August Special Election.

Potential candidates can obtain the necessary petitions from the Board of Elections office. For any inquiries or clarifications, interested individuals are encouraged to contact the office at (419) 447-4424.

Also, voters should be aware that the last day to register to vote or to update your registration due to a name or address change while still being eligible to cast a ballot in the Aug. 8 Special Election is July 10th.

More information about this election, including early voting hours, is to be released by the board of elections soon.
