Seneca County EMA needs help from residents on hazard mitigation plan
[Tiffin, OH Sept. 17, 2019] – This fall, Seneca County Emergency Management Agency is updating the county’s hazard mitigation plan.
The purpose of this plan is to identify local disaster risks and vulnerabilities and opportunities to reduce those risks prior to a disaster. This plan was most recently updated in 2015 and is required to be updated every five years. Because community input is a critical component of the hazard mitigation plan, we would appreciate your participation in the planning process. Throughout the fall, several work sessions have been scheduled with jurisdictions and community partners to further discuss mitigation issues and opportunities to reduce disaster loss across Seneca County.
These public work sessions are scheduled as follows:
Attica: TBA
Bettsville: Monday, Sept. 23rd at 10 a.m. at the Bettsville village office
Bloomville: Monday, Sept. 23rd at 1 p.m. at the Republic Village office.
County Health and Community: Thursday, Sept. 26th at 9 a.m. at the Seneca County Health Department
Fostoria: Thursday, Sept. 26th at 2 p.m. at the Fostoria Fire Department
New Reigel: TBA
Republic: Monday, Sept. 23rd at noon at the Republic Village office
Tiffin: Tuesday, Sept. 24th at 9 a.m. in the Tiffin Police Department Training Room
Townships: Monday, Sept. 30th at 6 p.m. at the NCOESC
We need to meet with representatives and citizens of these jurisdictions with knowledge of the disaster risks in Seneca County. These sessions are open to the public and anyone with knowledge or concerns are welcome. The work session will take about 60 to 90 minutes. This is a very important document that sets up your ability to receive Federal disaster funding should it be necessary in the future. Your participation while economically important will also help to save lives and property.
Additional facts:
* This plan costs your organization or jurisdiction nothing but a little bit of time.
* Ideas for future disaster mitigation projects in this plan DOES NOT require that you complete or even attempt them.
* This is a Federal requirement to be eligible for FEMA disaster funding in the future AND for hazard mitigation grants.
