Seneca County EMS receives grant money from local group
Funding to be used to buy equipment to help care for children
[Tiffin, OH Sept. 17, 2018] – Seneca County EMS received a $7,500 grant from Just for Kids of Seneca County during a check presentation Monday morning. Seneca County EMS Director Ken Majors said the funding is to be used to purchase nine identical pediatric care kits that will be placed in every county ambulance and in the county’s Echo Unit vehicle. The identical kits will make training easier across the county. The kits are based on the “Broselow System.” Under this system, the color-coded equipment that is needed is chosen based on the length of a child.
“This simplifies a very important aspect of a very stressful situation,” Majors said.
Lee Martin, of Just for Kids, said the group was happy to bring new equipment into county squads.
“It’s a pleasure to do something for the county to help kids,” he said. “We are grateful for all that (EMS personnel) do, and grateful for the opportunity.”
Martin and his wife Anne, Majors, EMS Administrator Dani Gebauer and Echo Unit paramedic Bill Anderson were joined by Just for Kids of Seneca County co-founders Greg and Julie Clouse for the presentation. Majors said the new equipment bags, which could be in service in a couple weeks, will replace dated equipment that doesn’t frequently get replaced due to cost.
“It’s our job to give (EMS technicians) the tools and training they need,” he said, adding that grants like this help to make the EMS organization more efficient.
Majors said the kits contain size specific equipment to allow personnel to provide better care for children of any age. He said EMS personnel must stay ready for all types of calls.
“Those types of runs get your heart rate up,” he said. “Nobody likes going on a pediatric call, so we’ve got to make sure we give EMTs the right tools.”
Majors said he was thankful for the funding.
“We are extremely grateful for the opportunity to request funding to support our operations when it comes to caring for children that become sick or injured in our community,” he said.
Lee Martin said Just for Kids of Seneca County is a non-profit that strives to help children in need in the community. He said the group is willing to help any child with a catastrophic illness.
“We’d like to be involved,” he said.
