Honoring Over a Century of Progress, the Chamber Recognizes Outstanding Contributions to Business, Tourism, and Community Impact
The Seneca Regional Chamber of Commerce and Destination Seneca County gathered for their 110th Annual Meeting, welcoming over 225 guests at Heidelberg University’s Seiberling Gymnasium. This historic occasion celebrated a year of accomplishments and honored community leaders whose contributions continue to shape Seneca County.
The Chamber, originally founded in 1914 as the Tiffin Chamber of Commerce, emerged during a time of significant global and local change. As World War I reshaped economies and industrialization swept across the United States, local businesses responded by forming an organization dedicated to uniting and promoting economic development within the community.
Over the years, the Chamber evolved to represent the entire county, rebranding itself as the Seneca Regional Chamber of Commerce in 2012 to reflect its expanded mission of fostering both business and tourism throughout the county. Today, the Chamber also manages Destination Seneca County, dedicated to promoting tourism alongside with business growth.
At this year’s meeting, Denise Bell was honored with the 2024 Carol Yager Excellence in Tourism Award. While Denise was unable to attend due to her participation in the National Caves Association Annual Convention, she was presented with the award earlier in the week by Executive Director Bryce Riggs. The special presentation took place in Harmony, Minnesota, surrounded by her cave family at the convention.
As the owner of Seneca Caverns, Denise has been instrumental in drawing visitors from around the world to Seneca County. Her leadership extends beyond Seneca Caverns through her involvement in various tourism organizations, reflecting a dedication that aligns with the spirit of Carol Yager’s legacy. Denise’s efforts to preserve and promote the region’s natural and historical treasures make her an outstanding ambassador for Seneca County tourism.
The Outstanding Citizenship Award went to Andrew Kalnow, owner and president of National Machinery. Andrew’s leadership and philanthropic efforts have had a profound impact on Tiffin’s economy and community. From leading projects like the East Green Amphitheater to supporting educational initiatives at Tiffin University and Heidelberg University, Andrew’s commitment to Tiffin’s growth and progress continues to inspire.
The Women’s Career Excellence Award was presented to Deb Martorana, Director of Internal Operations at the Seneca Regional Chamber of Commerce. For nearly 29 years, Deb has provided unwavering support to the Chamber through countless changes, embodying hard work, perseverance, and dedication. Her contributions have been instrumental in the Chamber’s success and growth, making her a deserving recipient of this award.
