Fleck’s Easter Egg Dye Company Operated for Over 100 Years in Tiffin
Tiffin, Ohio – The Seneca County Museum has just completed the installation of a new display in the Fort Ball Room at the museum. Just in time for Easter, the display will feature the life and products of J. J. Fleck, who produced and sold Easter Egg Dye in Tiffin for over 100 years.
By the 1970s, the Fleck Egg Dye Company had grown to be the 2nd largest egg dye company in the United States, but that wasn’t the only product that Fleck was successful at selling. He originally started as a druggist and eventually specialized in formulating a wide variety of animal stock foods and remedies that were sold all across the United States.
The J. J. Fleck display features many items straight from the Fleck drug store and business including: his mortar and pestle, shipping box stencils, the family coverlet, product display boxes and testimonial letters from satisfied customers. Also included in the display is a sampling of dye and animal stock food products made by competitors of J. J. Fleck.
This display will be available for viewing at the Seneca County Museum through the Heritage Festival in September 2019. The museum’s daily hours are: Tuesday to Friday, 1 to 5 pm and Saturday, noon to 4 pm.
