Sidewalk work in New Riegel scheduled

Sidewalk and curb work in New Riegel is scheduled to begin next week

Community Development Block Grant is to help fund the project

[Tiffin, OH Sept. 5, 2018] – Some sidewalks and curbs in New Riegel are to get a facelift starting next week. According to Seneca Regional Planning Commission Executive Director Charlene Watkins, about 2,171 feet of sidewalk is to be replaced on Tiffin, Findlay and Perry streets beginning Monday. The project also includes about 326 feet of curb replacement. The Community Development Block Grant is to fund about $82,100 of the approximately $99,346 project. Grant funding was obtained during the 2017 cycle. The village also decided to fund additional replacement work on Perry and Tiffin streets at its own expense. Those pieces of the project are to cost about $8,800. DL Smith Concrete is to complete the work. Those using sidewalks in these areas should be prepared for closings, as work on the project begins Monday. All work is weather permitting, but contractors hope to complete the work within two weeks. Watkins said she is excited the project received CDBG funds.

“By utilizing the Community Development Block Grant, the Village of New Riegel is able to provide a safer, more walkable downtown for their residents,” she said. “SRPC was glad to assist the village and the county with this project.”

CDBG projects in the county received about $297,000 through the 2017 allocation. The sidewalk replacement was joined by four other projects receiving funding. The additional projects included upgrades and replacement of equipment for the Clinton Township Fire Department and the modification of the first-floor restroom in the County Services Building to comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act.
