Commissioners receive four bids for Health Dept. wall/façade upgrade project

[Tiffin, OH – January 20, 2022] – The Seneca County Board of Commissioners received four bids for the County Services Building façade upgrade project Thursday morning.
The project is to include rebuilding the health department entrance and the pre-1865 wall to bring them up to compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act.
The CSB, located at 71 S. Washington St., is home to Seneca Regional Planning Commission, Seneca County Board of Elections and the Seneca County General Health District.
The engineer’s estimate for the project was $750,000 in 2019, but with increasing costs that estimate was amended to about $950,000.
The following bids were received:
– Telamon Construction, of Sandusky, for $999,562
– Alvada Construction, of Findlay, for $1,049,000
– Studer-Obringer, of New Washington, for $702,000
– Clouse Construction, of New Riegel, for $789,700
The county has been working with the project’s architect/engineer DLZ since June of 2019.
DLZ personnel and Seneca County Building and Grounds Maintenance Supervisor John Logsdon are to review the bids before a contractor is chosen for the work. County officials hope that work on the project can begin this spring.

In other action, County Administrator Stacy Wilson presented the final General Fund financial report from 2021.
For the year, the General Fund had about $20,640,000 in expenses and about $19,570,000 in revenue. Wilson said the expense figure is higher than usual because of some larger year-end transfers for foster care and large capital projects.
Wilson also reported General Fund expenses for December at about $2,460,000 with revenue at about $1,327,000.
During the commissioners’ scheduled board session on Feb. 3 at 10 a.m., the board is expected to consider and prioritize capital project requests.
During the Feb. 3 session, the commissioners plan to begin working on capital project requests for state legislators in hopes of receiving state capital budget funding.
In the past, the county has received state capital budget funds for projects at the Seneca County Museum and Opportunity Park.
During commissioners’ reports, the board reminded county residents of the monthly EMS stakeholder meeting scheduled for 7 p.m. at the North Central Ohio Educational Service Center.
During new business, the board approved all resolutions and financial appropriations from the meeting’s agenda.
