By Sheri Trusty, Seneca County Media Relations Coordinator
Seneca County Commissioner Bill Frankart toured the Rutherford B. Hayes Presidential Library & Museums as part of the Erie Basin Resource Conservation and Development (RC&D) Council meeting on June 14. Sandusky County Commissioner Charles Schwochow served as a host of the event.
The mission of Erie Basin RC&D is to protect local natural resources with an aim of improving the economy, environment and living standards in north central Ohio. The council is comprised of members from Seneca, Sandusky, Ottawa, Ashland, Crawford, Erie, Huron, Richland, Wood and Wyandot counties. Erie Basin is a nonprofit organization that focuses on land conservation, community development and environmental enhancement.
The June 14 meeting was hosted at the Hayes Museum and included tours of the museum and Hayes Home. Education Coordinator Alina Hart led a group of council members on a tour of the museum, where they learned about Hayes’ presidency, Civil War service and family. The museum offers an information-rich experience and the opportunity to view the museum’s extensive artifact collection, which includes unique pieces from several U.S. presidencies.
