Commissioners discuss capital project needs, sign proclamations for local figures

[Tiffin, OH – Nov. 4, 2021] – The Seneca County Board of Commissioners discussed a list of future capital improvement projects during Thursday morning’s session.
County Administrator Stacy Wilson and County Building and Ground Maintenance Supervisor John Logsdon presented the list to the commissioners.
The list, which was created about seven years ago and is updated annually, includes $15 million in estimated costs across 38 projects. The capital improvement project document also includes 39 projects that do not have a cost estimate listed.
The list includes about $5 million for capital projects at the Seneca County Jail and another $1 million for upgrades at the RTA Building in downtown Tiffin. Also included in the estimated number is a potential project to move some county offices to the East Tower. This idea is to be further discussed with city, county and state officials at a future work session, the commissioners said Thursday.
In other business, the commissioners read two proclamations.
The first was read by Commissioner Tyler Shuff and it was to recognize and congratulate 2021 Seneca County Veteran of the year, Michael Nye, of Fostoria.
Nye, who served during the Vietnam War and was a United States Army service member from 1970-1972, was chosen by the Seneca County Veterans Services Office for the honor.
A Veteran of the Year dinner is to be held in Nye’s honor at 5 p.m. on Nov. 10th at the AmVets in Tiffin. The proclamation is to be presented to Nye at the dinner.
Commissioner Anthony Paradiso read a second proclamation to thank the late Dale Stacy for his service to Seneca County.
Stacy died on Oct. 17th at the age of 96. He was a member of the Seneca County Board of Commissioners from 1966-1982. He also was a member of the Seneca County Board of Elections and was involved in the community, especially related to local agriculture.
Each of the commissioners paid their respects to Stacy, and the proclamation is to be given to his family later this week.
In other action, Wilson updated General Fund expense and revenue figures through the end of October. She said expenses for the year so far totaled about $15.9 million while revenue equaled about $16.6 million. For October alone, expenses were reported as about $1.7 million, while revenue was reported as about $1.1 million.
In other business, the commissioners approved an amendment to the lease agreement with the city of Tiffin for the municipal court on the second floor of the Seneca County Justice Center. In the initial agreement, the city was to pay 25 percent of ongoing expenses for operations. The change, which will be enacted pending the approval of Tiffin City Council, sets the city’s cost for 2021 (about $105,000) and 2022 (about $108,000) before the figure is re-evaluated for 2023 and beyond.
The commissioners are scheduled to meet again for a regular board session on Nov. 18 at 10 a.m. The Nov. 11 meeting is canceled in observance of Veterans Day.
In new business, all resolutions and appropriations from the agenda were approved.
