JUVENILE COURT ANNOUNCES PARTNERSHIP WITH CAPITAL UNIVERSITY LAW SCHOOL FOR FREE LEGAL SERVICES
[Tiffin, OH — July 19, 2021] – Judge Jay A. Meyer and the Seneca County Juvenile Court are proud to announce an exciting new partnership with the Capital University Law School Family & Youth Law Center Helpline to offer free legal services to qualifying Seneca County residents in certain family law related matters. The Program utilizes the talents of attorneys, as well as law student legal interns working under their supervision, to assist qualifying individuals seeking information regarding family law matters.
The Helpline provides information, guidance, and coaching for pro se litigants (individuals representing themselves in Court). Helpline staffers will clarify goals, explain legal concepts, and explain the legal process for callers. They will also assist callers with obtaining, accurately completing, and filing proper forms. Helpline attorneys will not represent clients, but will instead provide the legal guidance to help parties better represent themselves.
To qualify, interested Seneca County residents must meet the following criteria:
• Caller has a household income at or below 150% of Federal Poverty Guidelines for household size, or
• Caller has a disabling condition for which he/she receives Social Security Disability Insurance, or Supplemental Security Income, or
• Caller is 65 or older.
Calls to the helpline are to relate to issues of family law and the callers are not to have a conflict of interest with other callers to the Helpline.
Seneca County Juvenile and Probate Judge Jay Meyer is proud to help make these legal services available free of charge to qualifying Seneca County residents: “I am so excited to partner with the Capital University Law School Family and Youth Law Center to provide free access to quality family law-related legal services to pro se litigants who lack the resources they need to effectively represent themselves in Court. I am confident that this Program will not only help many pro se litigants manage family legal matters more effectively, but it will also help expedite the flow of legal matters through our Court and result in an improvement in overall judicial efficiency. Our mission is to serve our community, and I am confident that this partnership will help us continue to do just that.”
The Helpline is staffed Monday through Friday, except for National Holidays, and those recognized by Capital University. Qualifying Seneca County residents interested in utilizing this service should call (614)-236-7236. More information is also available at https://fylawhelp.org.
