Seneca County Commissioners recognize May as Motorcycle Awareness Month

During the May 2 Seneca County Commissioners’ meeting, commissioner Tyler Shuff read a proclamation recognizing May as Motorcycle Awareness Month. There are currently about 500,000 registered motorcycles on Ohio’s roadways, and keeping riders safe is everyone’s responsibility.
A representative from ABATE of Ohio (American Bikers Aimed Toward Education) attended the commissioners’ meeting to accept the proclamation. He said proclamations are being gathered around the state. ABATE will host an Awareness Rally on May 4 in Sunbury, and motorcyclists will then travel to the Ohio Statehouse to hear a proclamation from Governor Mike DeWine and present to his office the proclamations they acquired.
Among the many events and meetings the commissioners attended this week was the Board of Revision meeting. Commissioner Frankart explained that the Board of Revision – which consists of one commissioner, the county auditor and the county treasurer – is tasked with reviewing real estate tax appeals.
“They can bring information from a certified appraiser to show the value of their home, or they can just come themselves,” Commissioner Frankart said.
The commissioners also talked about their visit to the Ohio Statehouse on May 1, where Commissioners Frankart and Anthony Paradiso testified in support of Senate Bill 119. If passed, the bill, which was sponsored by Senator Bill Reineke, would create provisions for better oversight of the WIN Waste of Seneca County landfill by the Seneca County General Health District.
Commissioner Frankart reminded the public that May 3 is the start of the Biggest Week in American Birding at Magee Marsh, which celebrates the annual influx of migratory birds.
During their meeting, the commissioners approved one supplemental appropriation and approved four resolutions, including a resolution authorizing the board of commissioners to enter into a service agreement with the Brewer-Garrett Company for preventative maintenance on county buildings.
The next Seneca County Commissioners’ meeting will be held on May 9 at 10 a.m.
