IT Technician – Law Enforcement Support

Position Overview

Seneca County seeks an IT Technician to provide first-line technical support and assistance for city employees, with a focus on law enforcement software systems. This position works in collaboration with our contracted IT service providers, who handle cybersecurity and advanced technical support. The role plays a crucial role in maintaining the efficiency and effectiveness of our technology infrastructure while ensuring secure and reliable access to essential law enforcement applications.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide first-line technical support via phone, email, and in-person for county and Tiffin and Fostoria city employees
  • Troubleshoot and resolve hardware, software, and network connectivity issues
  • Support and maintain specialized law enforcement software applications
  • Set up and configure workstations, laptops, and mobile devices
  • Manage user accounts and access permissions
  • Document all support requests and resolutions in the ticket management system
  • Coordinate with contracted IT providers for advanced technical issues and cybersecurity matters
  • Escalate complex technical issues to contracted IT providers following established procedures
  • Participate in technology deployment projects in coordination with contracted IT providers
  • Maintain inventory of IT equipment and software licenses
  • Provide basic training to end-users on common software applications
  • Other tasks and projects as determined by county leadership

Required Qualifications

  • Associate’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field
  • 1-2 years of experience in IT support or help desk environment
  • Experience with Windows operating systems and Microsoft Office suite
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent customer service and communication abilities
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to pass background check

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with law enforcement software systems
  • CompTIA A+ certification
  • Knowledge of IT security best practices
  • Familiarity with Active Directory and basic networking concepts
  • Experience with ticket management systems
  • Understanding of CJIS security policies

Technical Skills

  • Windows OS administration (Windows 10/11)
  • Microsoft Office 365 support
  • Google Business Suite
  • Basic networking and connectivity troubleshooting
  • Hardware diagnosis and repair
  • Mobile device support (iOS/Android)
  • Remote support tools
  • Ticket management systems

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds
  • Mobility to access various work areas and equipment installations
  • Visual ability to read computer screens and printed materials
  • Manual dexterity to operate computer equipment

Work Environment

  • Primary work location is in county offices and police facilities
  • May require occasional work during non-business hours for system maintenance
  • On-call rotation may be required
  • Some travel between city facilities

Salary and Benefits

  • $45,000 – $60,000 based on experience and qualifications

Additional Information

  • Full-time, non-exempt position
  • Reports to Seneca County Sheriff
  • Works closely with contracted IT service providers for escalated issues and cybersecurity matters
  • Subject to background check and drug screening
  • Must maintain confidentiality and adhere to CJIS security policies
  • Expected to train on ProPhoenix Public Safety Software within first year of hire.
