Get to know your commissioners:

Favorite local restaurant: Reino’s Pizza and Pasta in Tiffin. “It’s got to be Reino’s because I grew up, I was born and raised in Tiffin. I’ve had pizza from Reino’s since my high school days in the 1960s. How can you not name a place that’s been here all this time?”

Favorite road in the county: South Washington Street. “I’m just excited about the revitalization of the downtown.”

Favorite park in the county: Hedges-Boyer Park. “I played and coached a lot of baseball games there. JoElla and I raised three boys.”

Favorite part of being a commissioner: “Just having interaction with the people that I hadn’t had the opportunity to meet previously. Having a small part in making things better for the county.”

Favorite U.S. President: Harry Truman. “The reason, he was in the seat during a time of a lot of trouble, during World War II. He handled things as he should. When he left office, he took no retirement salary. He moved back to Missouri to his home. He didn’t take any personal gain from being president, I think that’s remarkable.”

Hobbies: Fishing, playing golf and spending time with his seven grandchildren. “All this other stuff doesn’t make a difference, I have seven grandbabies and three kids, they are more important than everything else in the whole resume.”

An interesting fact most people don’t know: Mike occasionally performs as a singer with local band Rusty Vinyl. Mike performs in disguise and is welcomed on stage with a fake name.

Favorite music: The James Gang, Led Zeppelin, Joe Walsh, The Eagles and MoTown.  “Good old rock and roll, without question.”
